Hermann Hesse Museum
Herman Hesse (1877-1962) was a German novelist and painter who left his country after the World War I horrors to move to Montagnola, a small town near Lake Lugano. He spent the rest of his life in this charming town and wrote his best works there in his house called the Casa Camuzzi because it was owned by the Camuzzi Family. The museum itself is in the Torre Camuzzi, where Hesse lived from 1919 up to 1931, and displays many books, personal objects and watercolour paintings. This late medieval ancient tower, which has been restored with neo-gothic style in the 19th century, has a fantastic view over Lake Lugano.

Modern Art Museum
The Villa Malpensata built in the first half of the 18th century, hosts the Modern Art Museum in the city of Lugano and is one of the town's main art galleries. It is primarily focused on promoting art of the 20th century with a particular accent on the Expressionist school. A few names of masters already exposed there are for example Francis Bacon, Emil Nolde and Edvard Munch. In addition the museum features technical exhibitions, exhibitions devoted to Swiss artists of the 20th century and exhibitions held in co-operation with living artists.

In their chocolate factory they have introduced a museum about the history and traditions of Swiss Chocolate from it's beginning until today. It has a lot of documentation and many objects related to the production of chocolate. You will also be able to watch the production of chocolate itself.
