Before getting deep into the types of SEO, let’s do a recap of what SEO truly is.

There are three different types of SEO; technical SEO, off-page SEO, and on-page SEO.
With everybody having something to sell these days, it is becoming difficult to rank higher in the search engines.

Have you ever read a meta description that ranks top in the search engine but it fails to contain the information you need, so you choose to skip then coming back later you realize it has everything you need?
This is exactly what happens when a meta description is not properly written. It might be optimized but not well written.
They should be optimized to include the relevant keywords and I should be about 150 characters.
On a side note, Google is known to penalize keyword stuffing. Meaning that you should use your keywords sparingly and establish relevancy.
Make your page content naturally flowing, capturing all the essential keywords without jamming the page with repeated phrases.
What is off-page SEO
Offpage SEO is an optimization process that is done outside your website. This covers linking your website’s content to other relevant and authoritative websites.
Some of the ways to build a strong Off-Page SEO are;
- Backlinking – A backlink is a link from another website to your website. Having your website or your web content being mentioned and linked to another website will draw traffic to your website.
Non-link related off-page SEO
Apart from backlinking, the following are other self-explanatory ways you can optimize your website that does not include incorporation of link.

What is the difference between off-page and on-page SEO
As seen the major difference between the two types of SEO lies in the ranking factors. Off-page SEO relies majorly on outside contribution to the SEO efforts while on-page SEO relies majorly on inbound factors.
What is the similarity between on-page and off-page SEO
Both on-page SEO and off-page SEO largely contribute to higher rankings on the search engine. This subsequently translates to quality traffic and better sales for a business, for example.
Which one is more important?
Both Off-page and On-page SEO are important in optimizing websites for search engines.
They perform complementary functions and without one, the other is nearly as useless. In my expert opinion, start with On-Page SEO then followed by OFF-page SEO.
